Very early morning activity

Decided the only way to get a run in was this morning at 6am, because I am insane!

I am going out with some lovely ladies this evening and I knew it would be a late night and the chances are I would me more than a little tipsy by the end of it. I know I needed to fit a run in but by the time I get home I will only have 2 hours to get ready.
2 hours may seem excessive but I require some substantial working on to make my party face appear, its an age thing I think, that and i like looking like a drag queen when I go out. Think Ana Matronic from the scissor sisters meets Dame Edna Everidge

Anyway thats how I found myself jogging this morning, it was the last day of week 2 and what a morning to finish on, it was glorious. Beautiful still bright cold morning, mist rising from the fields and just cold enough to see your breath. It was simply beautiful. Add to that it felt amazing to be actually jogging, keeping my breath and looking at my surroundings.

Amazing way to finish week 2

Little concerned about week 3 I will be honest, it starts with a 90 second run followed by 90 seconds walking then 3 mins run and 3 mins walk. 3 mins is double what I am jogging now and I really feel like I cant do double that, I am waiting to finish and dragging myself along at times.

I have to try though, I think just like last week the first run will be a killer and I wont complete it so I am mentally ready for Sunday to be bloody hard work and just to try and complete as much as I possibly can.

Thanks for reading my silly blog, if any of you are runners please feel free to give me tips and hints...I need them!

I resisted cake! and then went for a run....but I resisted cake!!

Yes today was a milestone.

For those that don't know me I do like cake, I like to bake it, eat it, roll in it....well you get the picture.

I had promised the guys at work a cake for ages and never followed through so last night I decided I felt strong enough to bake...without tasting.
I made a large  Victoria sandwich filled with whipped double cream, strawberry jam and fresh strawberries and dusted with icing sugar, its also my all time fave to eat.
This morning I took it into work and straight to the chaps office upstairs, handed it over and refused the offer of a slice.
Proud? you bet your arse I am, I bleeding love that style of cake :)

My weight loss on Tuesday wasn't that great, only half a pound off but the way I figure it, your body has natural fluctuations and as long as I am sticking to the diet and running as usual it will come off, staying focused and not getting distracted is far more important right now that obsessing over scales.

Also I am feeling great at present, more energy, happy, bouncing up in the mornings and generally more alert too.
Nasty nicotine keeps creeping back but at the moment I am on no more that 5 per day so its baby steps, need to stop it though because it will be hindering my progression with running.
Target set, no more from tomorrow.

Running tonight went well although was knackered towards the end and felt like I was dragging myself along, I made all the runs though so thats great and my recovery is definitely getting faster.

I do wonder what people must think as they drive past me, I must look ridiculous with my bright red tomato face, ample behind bobbling behind me and the occasional chant of "come on Jeanie keep going" uttered as I run along.

I don't care though, feel better than I have in ages. Besides anyone that mocks me is obviously jealous of my complete and utter sex appeal in my jogging bottoms ;p

See you Friday bloggers xxx

I did it! well week 2 anyway.

I am pretty elated this morning, after dragging myself out of bed this morning dreading day 2 of week 2 I went for my run/walk.

After my disaster on Saturday I really didn't want to go this morning, then to add to mu distress I lost my ipod with my training podcast on it!!. I spent 20 mins blaming all of my children, my husband, the dog and potentially the cats before finally finding it in the bedroom.

As you can imagine at this point I am in a bad say the very least and doing this run was not something I particularly wanted to do.

So off I went and bugger me I actually did it! despite having to stop for cramp once and pausing my podcast so I could shuffle up the dingle hill at my own speed, I actually completed all of the runs.

I have arrived home bright red but in a much better mood and here I am sat eating an apple and drinking some water whilst typing about a run I have just!!

I never thought 5 weeks ago that I would be a nearly a stone lighter and running 3 times a week, as a reward I have ordered myself a running belt to put my ipod and water in whilst running. I will post a pic once it arrives.

Proper chuffed ;p

Week 2

Today was my first day on week 2 of the training schedule, last week it was 60 seconds of running followed by 90 seconds walking. This week that increased to 90 seconds running and 2 mins walking.

I decided to go up to sherdly park for a bit of a change and new environment, it was a good day for it as it was cloudy and not to warm.

I set off with enthusiasm and the first run went well but by the second run I was flagging, it was hard work. Now I know for anyone out there who runs miles at a time you must be thinking this is laughable, I mean 90 seconds how hard can it be! but for me as a newbie and substantially overweight it was not easy at all.

In the half an hour session I only managed to complete two full 90 second runs, the others I cut short by ten seconds or so which was really disappointing, I suppose I need to get this into my head that it wont be easy. I am dragging alot of weight around on a body that isn't used to doing much activity at all.

At the beginning I completed all of my warm up and stretches but my calfs still hurt like hell and I was out of breath looking like a big red tomato. It didn't help that there were so many people around and I felt really self conscious either.

Hopefully the second run on Monday will be a little bit more fruitful, I will stick with it though. I am determined to do this, even if I have to go back and do week one again. I will get to that 5k run stage if it kills me.

My new healthy eating regime is going well and I have not yet splurged out or cheated at all, every time I think about grabbing chocolate or crisps I close my eyes and visualise myself climbing up those stairs to McCraigs Folly.

I will get there.

I wanted to say that firstly as it is at the front of my mind.

Yesterday I went back to work and decided to wear my lovely new heals for the first time. As a result this morning I woke up with a blister on the sole of my foot the size of a 10p, I kid you not!!

Now I was bugged for two reasons, first was it hurt like hell whenever I put my foot down and secondly because it was my running night. However not to be defeated I lanced the blister, patched it up and over the course of the day at work it seemed to be ok. So much so I decided to go running after work after all.

I don’t know if it’s because of my blister issue or just the fact I am large and knackered but bloody hell everything hurt tonight! Seriously, cramp in my calves, pain in the back of my thighs, my backside cheeks felt like somebody had given them a beating (not in a good way either). I had to stop twice to stretch and try and shake off the pains.

I got through it and managed to do the full run but now I am considering doing the first week again as I am obviously not ready to progress.

Feeling a bit fed up and down in the dumps about it as I really wanted to progress quickly and reach the 5k in 9 weeks but I guess it’s not to be. I will keep plodding on and get there in the end.

On the upside the lovely hubby made an amazing fat free chilli for tea and my healthy eating plan is going well, people have started to notice I have lost weight and comment on it which is lovely and gives you a little boost of motivation. Not that I obsess about what others think of me, far from it! It’s still nice to receive a compliment though: D

Anyway I am due to run again on Saturday so keep your fingers crossed for me! Now I am off to have a lovely hot bubble bath and a well-earned cuppa.

Woo hoo!

This afternoon I had the official weekly weigh in, I lost a total of 4lbs this week giving me a total weight loss of 12lbs over 4 weeks.

Not bad at all.

I am trying to take each week as it comes but knowing I have another 3 stone to go makes it seem like a drop in the ocean, having said that if I can continue at the rate I am going its another 3-5 months until I hit my target.

More importantly I am beginning to feel the health benefits, my clothes fit better and I am more alert and awake. I just keep holding on to the fact that by next summer I will be out hiking and camping without feeling desperately out of breath and tired.

Last April we went to Oban on holiday and the walking nearly finished me off, we climbed up to a place called Mccaig's Folly which is on the top of a large hill. At one point I didn't think I was going to make it up there I was puffing and panting so much and I shouted at my other half for not driving us to the top! Next year I want to go again and stroll up there just for the hell of it!!

Anyway thats my musings for today, next run on Thursday. See you then.

Wet Wet Wet

Now before you say it...yes I know I was only supposed to be running tomorrow but I woke up at 6 this morning and thought, what the hell I will do it today!
As long as you leave at least one day between each run then you are OK according to the couch to 5k pod cast.

This morning was wet, very wet. I decided in my wisdom to go running down by the Sankey Canal, as you can imagine I got even more wet and a bit muddy for good measure.
Having said that I really enjoyed this morning, the rain kept me nice and cool and it was so lovely down the Canal, seeing all the rabbits and just the whole environment made the running experience so much nicer.

Although very sore to start off with I soon warmed up and I was amazed to see improvement already after only one session! I made all of the interval runs to the end and didn't get that sick feeling at the end which was amazing. This mornings session has given me so much more encouragement to keep going, I actually have that exercise high this morning!

Food wise its been a great week and I am looking forward to weigh in tomorrow to see if there are signs on the scales thats everything is reducing in the right direction. I have resisted weighing myself everyday this week as it has become a bit of an obsession which is not good. Yes I want to lose some weight but the main focus of this whole exercise is to get fit and healthy, anything else is a bonus.

Thinking of adding some pics of the places I have been running, just a thought.

Will post my success on the scales tomorrow!

A new extreme sport discovered!

So today was my first run, well I say run it was more of a light intermittent jog, but hey! its my first time.

I used the NHS couch to 5k pod cast and its brilliant! the lady who voices it is supportive without being patronising and lets you know when to run and when to walk.

You start with a 5 min brisk walk to warm up followed by 60 seconds of running and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 30 mins. It works out at 8 mins running in total. Now to any seasoned runners out there please don't laugh! this may seem like nothing but to me it was HUGE! The final 5 mins is a cool down walk and by the end of it I was pumping with sweat, looking like a big red tomato and feeling really chuffed with myself.
I am thinking I may need to do week 1 twice as I realised today just how unfit I really am, I will see how the rest of the weeks running goes and then decide.

Highlights of the morning? it had to be the two encounters with stereotype teenage thugs. First encounter they generally laughed, made comments and took the piss. Second encounter the large Neanderthal type boy with the female attached to his back asked me to stop it went something like this -

Him " excuse me love, will you marry me because your really hot" (cue snigger's from his support act)
Me " No thanks sweetie your really not my type" (running away quickly)

I didn't hear the rest as I was making an exit but apparently he didn't like my response, I look forward to seeing him again in 9 weeks when I can abuse him some more and run away much faster. I can see a new extreme sport in the making.

Anyway off for a bath to reward my good start and I shall post again after the next run, its weigh in on Tuesday and I cant wait!

long time no see!

Well last year went all wrong, I started teaching in september full time whilst completing my teacher training along side and my focus shifted from getting fit to keeping on top of my HUGE work load.

Every evening was taken up with work and most weekends, on top of that from May 2012 my husband became very ill and for 3 months I needed to care for him as he remained in bed alot of the time, as well as looking after our 3 amazing daughters. As a result  my fitness went AWOL and the worst thing was I started smoking again and piled the weight on.

So here I am, starting again.

3 weeks ago I started a slimming club and have lost 8lbs already, my next step is starting the NHS couch to 5k in 9 weeks program to finally get running!. Its a free training program designed for the NHS to introduce absolute beginners to running and get them moving.

The link is here -

Smoking has dwindled down over the last few weeks and have finally ditched the evil nicotine again this week.

My new running regime starts on Saturday so I will start my new blog posts then, each session I will report on how effective the training sessions have been and on a tuesday each week I will report my weight loss or gain.

I want to run 3 times per week to start with, this will be a Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Last year I got the job of my dreams, its changed my life. This year I want to be proud in my own skin and get my health back on track.

See you saturday for the first update.
